Answer
The National Allergy Strategy (NAS) was launched in June 2026. Although many elements of the strategy are beyond the remit of my Department, the Department is responsible for a number of relevant actions, including the provision of paediatric allergy services in HSC Trusts across Northern Ireland.
My predecessor and departmental officials have met with representatives involved in the development of the Strategy to discuss how best to progress those elements that fall within the Department’s remit, particularly the provision of paediatric allergy services across HSC Trusts.
The NI Paediatric Respiratory and Allergy Network (NIPRAN) is a well-established regional network that brings together relevant paediatric allergy clinicians across Northern Ireland. My officials are working closely with NIPRAN to identify and implement measures to improve the delivery and co-ordination of paediatric allergy services on a regional basis, including actions aligned with the objectives of the NAS.
While I recognise the significant financial pressures facing the HSC system, I remain committed to supporting sustainable improvements in paediatric allergy services across Northern Ireland and ensuring that opportunities to enhance service provision are progressed, wherever possible.
