Answer
The information requested on the number of first-aiders is not monitored by the Department or the Education Authority. However, the Education Authority is able to identify staff in controlled and maintained schools who receive a First Aid Allowance through payroll records.
The number of posts receiving a First Aid Allowance in controlled and maintained post-primary schools in North Down is 43. This information is based on June 2026 payroll data.
Receipt of a First Aid Allowance indicates that a member of staff has been designated to undertake first aid responsibilities, However, it should not be taken as a direct measure of the total number of qualified first-aiders within schools, as neither the Department or the Education Authority collect or monitor this information.
