Answer
The business case in respect of the School Enhancement Programme (SEP) project at Clifton School was approved in November 2024 at a total cost of circa £5.2m. The preferred option sought to address identified deficiencies through extension and refurbishment concentrating on provision of senior and transition years, nurture facilities and specialist classrooms. Following my decision to set aside the capital threshold for SEP projects at special schools, the Education Authority has been working with my Department and the school to expand the scope of the project to better meet the needs of staff and pupils.
In addition to the originally approved option, the proposed enhanced project will deliver sports hall provision and four general classrooms as well as refurbishment of the school meals accommodation. Due to the proposed change in scope and increased costs a business case addendum is now being developed. This will be subject to the necessary approvals.
A project board has been established to ensure that the school is kept informed of the progress of the scheme.
