Answer
This is an operational matter for the Housing Executive. I have sought the information requested from the Chief Executive who has advised me as follows:
“We are unaware of any housing support directed specifically at or for students. All applicants seeking permanent rehousing under the Housing Selection Scheme (HSS) must meet the eligibility criteria set out in Chapter 2 of the HSS Guidance manual. These requirements are
Age
Connection to Northern Ireland
Eligibility (Unacceptable Behaviour, Persons From Abroad)
If the applicant satisfies these requirements, regardless of their educational status, they can access housing/homelessness support and will be assessed under the HSS based on their individual circumstances.
As noted, for any full-time and part-time students, the nature of support provided will be based on their individual circumstances and Housing Advisors will ensure that all appropriate advice and support is provided.
Housing Benefit
Housing Benefit for working age customers is being replaced by the housing costs element of Universal Credit. New Housing Benefit claims for working age customers are only possible if the customer lives in temporary or supported accommodation.
For eligible students who become homeless, they can make a claim for Housing Benefit.”
