Answer
There are a number of factors used when determining the need for road resurfacing, including road usage, general surface condition, structural deformation, public enquiries and public liability claims.
Groomsport Road Roundabout forms part of the busy A2 corridor and had started to show signs of structural failure so was included in the 2021/22 resurfacing programme. However, it could not be completed due to contractor capacity issues prior to the expiry of the contract in November 2021.
The scheme was planned for inclusion in the 2024/25 resurfacing programme subject to available resources. However, following an in-year reallocation of capital funding the scheme has been brought forward into this 2023/24 year.
All the schemes in the North Down Area which are listed in the 2023/24 Council Report have been delivered.
