Answer
The Northern Ireland Cancer Registry (NICR) published its latest official statistics on cancers diagnosed in Northern Ireland in August 2026, covering the period 1993 to 2023. Validated cancer incidence data is available for this reporting period to review on the NICR main website: https://www.qub.ac.uk/research-centres/nicr/cancer-information/cancer-data-by-tumour-type/
Survival data for Acute Myeloblastic Leukaemia (AML) patients in Northern Ireland diagnosed in the 10-year period 2014-2023 (with mortality data to end of 2024) is shown below.
| Leukaemia Type | Patients included at start | One-year age-standardised net survival (95% Confidence Interval) |
| Acute Myeloblastic Leukaemia | 593 | 45.2% (40.0% - 51.0%) |
Average one-year age-standardised net survival was 45%. Age-standardised net survival is reported as this estimates the probability of survival following a cancer diagnosis after adjusting for deaths from causes other than cancer.
