Answer

Action 59 of A Cancer Strategy for Northern Ireland 2022-2032 is to “Review the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry.” The registry was established in 1994 and a key function is the production of annual official statistics on cancer incidence, prevalence and survival in Northern Ireland. This includes data on screening, incidence and survival by age, sex, cancer type, variations due to deprivation, stage of disease, treatment and support services.

Work has begun to scope a review of the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry (NICR), and this is expected to progress over the coming year.

A review of the NICR is expected to help inform the future direction of cancer data, taking account of wider developments in clinical practice, reporting, analytics, information systems and health system requirements.
