Answer
In the majority of towns, parking restrictions operate primarily from Monday to Saturday including the Controlled Parking Zones in Belfast, Lisburn and Newry. On Sundays, both traffic flow and footfall are generally reduced, and as a result, enforcement requirements are lower.
A total of eight Traffic Attendants (TAs) are routinely deployed on Sundays between 1:00pm and 6:00pm in Belfast (4 TAs), Derry (2 TAs) and Newry (2 TAs) throughout the year. During the summer season, an additional team (2 TAs) is deployed on a rotational basis to towns with significant tourist activity, such as Portrush, Portstewart, Ballycastle and Newcastle.
My Department’s approach to enforcement is flexible and my officials will endeavour to accommodate requests for additional enforcement as capacity permits. Such requests can be submitted via email to Parking.Request@infrastructure-ni.gov.uk
