Answer
The process of sharing patient medical history between jurisdictions across the United Kingdom varies depending on the data sharing requirements, processes employed by care provider organisations involved and associated guidelines. All information must be processed and shared in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Guidance and Codes of Practice issued by the Information Commissioner Office (ICO) must also be followed.
Information shared for secondary uses must also follow UK data protection law, ICO guidance and the guidance set out in Code of Practice on Protecting the Confidentiality of Service User Information issued by the Department- https://www.health-ni.gov.uk/publications/code-practice-protecting-confidentiality-service-user-information.
