Answer
Question 10 – AQO 1386/22-27
High streets are crucial in energising our local economies and are woven into the fabric of our local communities. Whilst the Department for Communities has a remit for town centre renewal, it is not for one Department to develop a comprehensive strategy.
In recognition of the cross-departmental approach required to effect meaningful change, TEO commissioned a High Street Task Force which delivered its report and recommendations in 2022.
I have identified that the High Street Task Force Recommendation 8: ‘Fair Work on Our High Streets’ sits within the direct remit of my department. Delivering on this recommendation aligns with my priority on Good Jobs, and my department is already actively working on initiatives that will support its implementation.
Rejuvenating our high streets and town centres requires a response from across the Executive and I remain committed to cooperating with my Executive colleagues to find solutions.
