Answer
My officials have confirmed that Station Road, Craigavad, from below the railway bridge, and the entire length of the Glen Road, Craigavad, are private roads and not maintained by my Department.
In circumstances where a road has not been adopted by my Department as part of the street planning functions then Article 9 of the Private Streets (NI) Order 1980 can apply. In such cases the owners or occupiers of the land need to write to the Department requesting that the street become a public road.
I have been advised by my officials that they have not received any formal request for adoption from the land owners or occupiers of Station Road, Craigavad or Glen Road, Craigavad nor any request for an assessment of work required to bring these roads to the required standard for adoption into the public road network.
It is important to note that the responsibility for carrying out any such remedial works and the associated costs rest solely with the owner / occupiers.
