Answer
My Department maintains its claims records by Section Office area which broadly align with Council areas. The number of claims received for accidents that occurred in the Ards and North Down Section Office area for the last five full financial years are detailed in the table below.
| 2019/2020 | 2020/2021 | 2021/2022 | 2022/2023 | 2023/2024 | |
| Ards & North Down | 312 | 280 | 247 | 371 | 686 |
These figures include claims for vehicle damage, personal injury and property damage.
The compensation paid on claims for accidents that occurred in the Ards and North Down Section Office area for the last five full financial years are detailed in the table below.
| 2019/2020 | 2020/2021 | 2021/2022 | 2022/2023 | 2023/2024 | |
| Ards & North Down | £244,566.27 | £280,957.61 | £314,190.14 | £316,770.16 | £425,081.19 |
Again, these figures include claims for vehicle damage, personal injury and property damage.
In addition, note that claims received in a financial year are not always concluded in the same financial year. Therefore, the claims expenditure figures for a given financial year will usually include claims that were received in prior financial years.
