Answer
My Department has been operating in a difficult financial environment for a number of years due to austerity by the British Government which has meant that it has had to introduce a limited service maintenance policy, meaning that only the highest priority road defects are repaired. This underfunding has unfortunately resulted in a deteriorating road network.
Castle Park Road was last inspected on 9 April 2024 and is considered to be structurally sound. There were no defects that met the intervention criteria in accordance with the current limited-service maintenance policy. My Department will continue to monitor this area and repair defects in accordance with the current policy.
The value of our infrastructure cannot be overstated, and I will continue to work with Executive colleagues to ensure appropriate investment is made.
