Answer
My Department is working towards finalising the All-Island Strategic Rail Review which considers how the rail network on the island of Ireland can improve sustainable connectivity between major cities, enhance regional accessibility, support balanced regional development and contribute to decarbonisation. The Review includes a recommendation to explore the case for developing new stations, however, being at a strategic level, the Review has not considered the location of these stations.
Once the Review is published, further work will be required to prioritise the recommendations and then to undertake feasibility studies and develop business cases to support any future investment decisions, including those in relation to the development of any new rail halts along the existing network.
