To ask the Minister for Infrastructure for an update on the roll-out of her Department's part-time 20 miles per hour speed limit zones outside schools.

Answer (13 October 2026): Ms Kimmins: I have said repeatedly that road safety is a high priority for my Department, and we are committed to working proactively to make our roads safer and to address the needs of all road users. We are acutely aware that children and young people are among the most vulnerable groups using roads, particularly around schools. In June last year, I announced tranche 3 of a programme for part-time 20 mph zones that would benefit 40 schools across the North as part of my Department's ongoing commitment to improving road safety. That tranche focused on schools on rural roads where the 60 mph…

Answer (13 October 2026): The Northern Ireland Cancer Registry (NICR) publishes age-disaggregated leukaemia statistics using standard epidemiological age groupings to ensure consistency, comparability and statistical reliability.

Further disaggregation into narrower age bands may result in small numbers of cases, which can reduce the robustness of published statistics and increase disclosure risks. For this reason, routine publications use age groupings that balance analytical value with statistical quality requirements.

To ask the Minister of Health whether any assessment has been made of how leukaemia survival rates in Northern Ireland compare to other nations in the United Kingdom.

Answer (13 October 2026): Cancer survival is commonly reported using Age Standardised Net Survival (ASNS), which estimates the probability of survival following a cancer diagnosis after adjusting for deaths from causes other than cancer.

The most recent available leukaemia data indicates that one-year ASNS for adults aged 15-99 diagnosed with leukaemia in Northern Ireland during the period 2019-2023 was 80%. One-year ASNS was 75.4% for Scotland (2018-2022), 74.2% for Wales (2018-2022) and 74.2% for England (2015-2019).

However, direct comparisons should be interpreted with caution as the data relates to different…

Answer (13 October 2026): Improving outcomes for patients with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) remains an important priority for my department.

Over the last three years, a number of measures have been undertaken within the regional haematology service, led by Belfast Health and Social Care (HSC) Trust, to support earlier diagnosis, access to innovative treatments and improved patient outcomes.
To ask the Minister of Health to detail the survival rates for acute myeloid leukaemia in Northern Ireland, in the last ten years.

Validated cancer incidence data is available for this reporting period to review on the NICR main website: https://www.qub.ac.uk/research-centres/nicr/cancer-information/cancer-data-by-tumour-type/
